Exodus 14:15 Then the LORD said to Moses, “Why are you crying out to me? Tell the Israelites to move on. Raise your staff and stretch out your hand over the sea to divide the water so that the Israelites can go through the sea on dry ground.
Let me set the scene for you. Israel had just been released from slavery. They we escaping from Pharaoh’s armies when they ran into the barrier of the Red Sea, the army was gaining on them and they had nowhere to go.
It is amazing how fast Israel forgot about all the wonders God had performed in Egypt and the first thing they say to Moses when faced with hardship is “It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!” Through this exercise what Israel learned and what we now as believers need to wrap our spiritual minds around is that there is supposed to be conflict. The reason that there is supposed to be conflict is that we are spiritually created beings, and we are made by God to rely on Him and call on Him in a time of crisis. That is His nature for us, that He might be God in our lives. We are made to accomplish nothing without Him.
At the first sign of trouble Israel wanted to go back. They all said “we could be killed”. When you have those kinds of thoughts let me tell you now that is the enemy talking. That is all he has is threats. The enemy will say to you, you might get cancer; you might get divorced; you might lose your job…..those are all lies of the enemy made to strike fear in our hearts, but God is greater than Satan’s lies and threats. We cannot let fear make us go backwards. Even as God told Moses and Israel to go forward, we must move forward.
Jeremiah 29:11-13 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
God knows what His will is for our lives, no doubt about it, that is set in stone. The empty threats of the enemy are not a factor. God says to you, “I know what I have the plans I have for you. Gods says, I have success for you, I will make a way for you, I have a job for you, I made you, I formed you, I breathed life into you and I redeemed you. I promise you God has a plan for you, so move forward and let Him be God in your life.
As Israel was standing at the foot of the Red Sea with the enemy right on their tail, Moses cried out to God. God then says to Moses “Why are you standing there looking to me? I have told you, everything you need is in your hand. Go forward; stop standing around… get busy. God told Moses, raise your arm, take what is in your hand and stretch it out in front of you.
Moses had to coordinate with His eyes with what he had in his hand. We have to keep our eyes on God and coordinate our spiritual vision with what God has placed in our hand. I am not trying to slam Moses’ staff, but all Moses had was basically a big stick, but God used it. When God tells us to move forward and to use what we have in our hand we have a lot more than a big stick. We have the infallible living Word of God, which is the anvil that has worn out all the hammers of all the lies of the enemy over the ages.
We have in our hands His mighty Word with every promise, every instruction, every commandment, and stories of redemption that we can believe in and stand on. We have in the New Testament the words of our Savior and the message of the cross, by which the Apostle Paul instructs us that through the blood that redeemed us on that Cross, “We are more than conquerors”.. We are more than Moses and the staff that conquered Pharaoh and spread the Red Sea, we are the offspring of the living God by Christ Jesus and what we hold in our hands is His Living Testament of that New Covenant written in His blood, of which we are partakers by His grace.
So take what you have in your hand, His Word, God’s promise, the power of the Blood infused with the Holy Spirit and stretch it out in the direction you need to move in your life. Let God be God, and He will part the Red Sea in your life. When Moses and Israel stepped out, God performed a miracle for them, and for the first time in history there were footprints seen at the bottom of the Red Sea. Sometimes stretching out and believing in what God has placed in your hand will lead you where you have never been before. You will not be walking in someone else’s footprints; you will be making your own. You may be leaving footprints where they may have never been seen before in new path blazing through the obstacle that is in front of you, as God destroys the enemy that is behind you. So go ahead and move forward.
Everything you need is in your own hand; God has supplied you with all you need. So stretch out, your destiny is in your hand!
