Life without Limbs, a Life without Limits

The story that you are about to read and the video you will watch attached to this story will change your outlook on life. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Eku7kxGCSE&feature=related

Life is full of miracles—stories of victories, great individual feats and super-human accomplishments. It’s easy to reach out and grab hold of someone who encourages us and lifts us up. The story and video you are about to read and watch, will change your outlook on life, forever. If you are looking for hope, inspiration and the love of God, you will find all three. The man you are about to meet will tell you, “I don’t shake hands, give me a hug.”

What if you could not reach out because you had been born without arms? You could not hold a friend or be lifted up or have fingers to touch. Could you imagine your life without hands or legs? You could not dance or move yourself around, from place to place. If you were limbless, where would you find your inspiration? How would you be motivated to live your life?

Nick Vujicic was born in 1982 in Brisbane, Australia. Nick came into the world deformed—missing both arms at the shoulder level and legless, but with two small feet—one of which has only two toes. His parents were shocked to see their new-born baby boy. His mother Dushka, was a nurse, and his father was a Gospel minister. They worried for their small helpless child. They knew the world was tough. How would he ever make it? How would he live a normal life or experience happiness, joy and hope?

The first thing you will notice in the video is that Nick is very happy. His parents would never have imagined that their limbless baby boy would grow to become an extension of God’s arms and hands and begin reaching out to touch, inspire and motivate others, from all walks of life. Nick’s life is being used as a vehicle of God’s love. The Holy Spirit touches lives and brings the love of Christ Jesus to people across the world through Nick.

Throughout his childhood, he dealt with challenges at school and was bullied by other kids. Suffice it to say, he had to struggle with self-esteem issues. He faced depression and loneliness. He asked God, “why am I so different from all the other kids? Why was I born without arms and legs, like everyone else? What is the purpose behind my life and will I ever find it?” Nick found the answers to his questions and more. He achieved victory over the struggles in his journey and discovered a strength and passion for life. Nick credits his faith to knowing His Saviour and gives all the praise and glory to God almighty.

He learned to write using his two toes on his left foot. A special device slides onto his big toe which he uses as a grip. He also learned to use a computer and type using the “heel and toe” method (as demonstrated in his speeches). Nick can throw tennis balls, play drum pedals, comb his hair, brush his teeth, answer the phone, shave and get himself a glass of water.

He obtained a double major Bachelor’s degree and began fulfilling his God-given dream of encouraging others, and bringing them to know the gospel of Jesus Christ. He lifts up others through his motivational speaking. By sharing his testimony of how God changed his life, gave him a future and filled him with hope, he is altering the lives of others for the better. In Nicks own words, “I found the purpose of my existence and purpose of my circumstance. There’s a purpose for why you’re in the fire.”

At the core of his ministry is Nick’s belief that there is a purpose in every struggle we encounter. Our attitude towards our difficulties, along with our faith and trust in the Lord, are the keys that help us overcome the said challenges.

At the age of twenty-seven, this limbless young man has accomplished more than most people ever achieve in an entire life time. Since his first speaking engagement when he was nineteen, Nick has traveled around the world. He has spoken in more than twenty-five countries across four continents. He has shared his testimony and the story of God’s outstretched arms, face to face, with millions of people—on television, radio, and in person at churches and stadiums. Nick explains, “If God can use a man without arms and legs to be His hands and feet, then He will certainly use any willing heart!”

I deeply encourage you to watch the video and allow the Spirit of God to speak to your heart. Nick’s message is to NEVER, EVER give up and to get up when you fall down. In an inspiring tone, Nick states, “I don’t need arms and I don’t need legs. I need the wings of the Holy Spirit. And I am flying because I know that Jesus is holding me up. Do not give up on God, because God will not give up on you. If I fail, I try again and again and again.”
