Inspirational Bible Verses – A Child of God – We Cry Abba Father

Cry, Abba. . . Father

If you were to take a survey and ask the participants to describe the characteristics of a newborn, two words that would be at the top of the list would be helpless and crying. When a child is born into this world it does not have the ability to care for itself. It has to be fed, nurtured, changed and comforted. A baby always lets you know when it needs something by crying. There is great joy that the parent receives as they care for their infant child. When children cry out they realize that there is a loving parent that will take care of their needs and comfort them. We have that loving Father in God who hears us in need as we cry out “Abba, Father”. Jesus shows us an example of this.

Mark 14:36

“Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”

Jesus was in mortal agony as He was beginning to feel the weight of the sins of the world as He was preparing to lay down His life as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. He was in pain – He was hurting – He cried out to His Father. Never has there been a sorrow like there was being laid upon Jesus at this time. He was feeling death, and the bitter cold taste of the curse as it would be laid upon Him on Calvary. His heart was heavy – he was in sorrow – he cried out Abba, Father.

Jesus shows us here that in life we too have the privilege that is given to those who have been redeemed by the precious gift that He gave as He fulfilled the sorrow and pain that was laid upon Him that day by His sacrifice on Calvary. We have the privilege to cry out to Abba our Father in the same way as Jesus did that night in the garden as He was facing death. Jesus is the Son of God and it was the natural thing for Him to cry out for His Father as He was in need. He has given you and me the same privilege. He desires for us to “cry out” Abba, Father when we are in need.

Romans 8:15 Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

We have been adopted by God. Even as Jesus IS the son of God, you and I are literally children of God, as He has adopted us by the blood of Christ Jesus. Let us understand the power that we have being adopted and becoming heirs to the King.

When a child is adopted their past from their natural-born family is removed, and legally forgotten and sealed as if it did not ever exist. The child gains all the rights of a legitimate child in their new family. They have new father, and they became an heir to the father’s estate. They are equal co-heirs with the other children. That child is absolutely the child of their new father. We are that child, and our debt of sin has been cancelled by the blood of Jesus. We are a new child in God, by the Blood of the Lamb. Paul tells us in Corinthians that once we are in Christ we have become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! In that new life we are the sons and daughters of God, part of the inheritance of a royal priesthood, receivers of eternal life. What a wonderful thing to be thankful for.  What a glorious privilege we have to be the absolute possession of God our Father! As his children we take on the name of God—we are His children, His heirs, and His ambassadors.

God chose you and me to be His child. What an amazing, incredible gift. We were taken from a situation which would not have turned out well and in Christ Jesus we are given the opportunity to be adopted and live as God’s own children, and become a member of His family. We have been given a new identity, a new name, a new life, and a new inheritance. His love for us as “Abba” our heavenly Father is so vast and wide that he has made us heirs and has built a home for us in heaven and awaits the day when our flesh no longer remains, and we are as Paul wrote, absent from the body, and present with the Lord. So these are the thing and definitions of our heavenly Father in the Bible.

He has adopted us and made us his children through the blood of his Son Ephesians 1:5 – He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will—God, “Abba”, our heavenly father desires an intimate relationship with us, his children. He is our comfort, and our strength.

He alone is “Abba”, dad, daddy, papa, and Father in every sense of the word. What a glorious blessing we have to have Him as our parent, and how precious and wonderful it is to be His child.

Galatians 4:4-6

God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem us that we might receive the full rights of being His child. Because you are His children, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” And since you are His child, God has also made you an heir.

So when you are in need like a newborn child simply cry out “Abba, Father” to the greatest daddy of them all –  He gave His only Son to die that He might in turn adopt you as His child – there is no greater love than this. There are no bigger arms to hold you, and there is no love greater than His.
