Are You Busy? Be Still and Know God – Inspirational Bible Verses

Be still and know that I am God Psalm 46 10 2Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God

All of us are busy, running to and fro in our daily activities. Family, church, our jobs; these things consume our time. In all this many times we feel, burned out, tired and stressed. Many times we feel that the weight of the world is on our shoulders as we attempt to balance our lives. Sometimes we feel that we cannot take even one more step as circumstances and life have drained us. God knew that we would find ourselves in these situations and directed us in His word that when we find ourselves in these situations that we should stop, sit down and relax.

Exodus 14:13 tells us to stand still, and see the salvation of God. Here the word is telling us that we need not to be anxious; instead we need to be calm, confident , and trustful in our God as we sit still and await His divine presence and power as He works in our lives.

God wants to fulfill all of our tomorrows, and give us strength for today.  He wants to bring a new tomorrow, renewing our strength. He wants us to live life, and live it in abundance. God intends a wonderful fruitful life for us. The key to that is stopping, and sitting still; waiting on Him to carry out His will in our lives.

It is not only hard to be still, but it is difficult to find the time to be still, as being still goes against our natural grain. Our natural tendencies are pedal to the medal, full speed ahead. But here in His Word, God is instructing us to us to put on brakes and be still. Being still before God is not inactivity, it is wisdom.

When we sit still and trust God, it will silence the enemy as he knows God is our rescue. As we put our trust and faith in God, tomorrow will always come. As we sit quietly and wait on Him, He will keep our heart at rest, averting feelings of fear, stress and despair. When we are broken we cannot find rest, and hope is nowhere to be found. Our hope is found in the grace of God by Christ Jesus. He can heal a broken heart when nothing else can. A mother can take her crying infant and place it to her breast and quiet its fears and tears.  David said, “Why am I discouraged, broken, depressed, down in the dumps, crying the blues; Why am I sad; I will put my hope in God, I will fix my heart and eyes on him and He will bring gladness to my soul.” As we sit still and put our trust in God, He will turn our brokenness into gladness, our sorrow into peace, and our sadness into joy. We will laugh with His joy in our hearts while there are still tears in our eyes. He will renew life within us, if we will but sit still and know that He is our God, as we rest on His promises.

Busy, busy, busy . . . TV, internet, cars, books, friends, sports, work, gym, conditions, relationships, alliances, etc. . . . Many times we allow these things to replace God our central focus, attention and devotion. These activities cause us to neglect God by taking away our time from Him.

His Word tells us to stop all the running around relax in Him, allowing Him to be the first, the middle, and the last in our lives. It is His desire to give us rest, hope and more, if we put Him first and foremost in our lives and lay aside all other things.

When we are still we can see the hand of God working in our lives and experience His kindness. Our lives can turn around, and everything that has gone wrong can begin to go right. We can find happiness as our worries, stress and fears, vanish. In being still, God can reveal Himself to us and we will know Him.

Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message)

”Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Jesus is telling us to take a rest, be still and watch as He works for the good in our lives; in doing so we will know Him, as we see Him perform miracles for us each and every day. As we sit, rest and wait, we will see the words of the Psalmist come alive in our lives. Learn the rhythm of His grace as you are still before God.

  1. Waiting and being still before the Lord wasn’t something I eagerly wanted to learn, but I had no choice. I needed to hear His voice for all of my situations.

  2. Be still,.. wait… – are very alien to us in this generation … that is why there are so many falls with some fatal. God gave us two ears to listen and then two feet to walk. It takes some time for the message to travel from ears to feet. When we do not hear and then wait till the message gets to the feet, we fall or go wrong. The Lord did not create us and leave us alone. He gives His directions and His specifications manual. But we do not listen and when we get into trouble we blame the Creator instead of ourself. How sad because then we never learn. Timely advice Darrell benefitting many of us who will be well advised to be warned to be still and wait on the Lord. I am posting your blog on ChristianBlessings on 15 February with your approval. Thank you for sharing. Best regards, Evelyn

  3. i myself get distracted and before you know it, the day is done and i don’t know what i did with my time that i was supposed to share with the LORD and for the LORD. A lovely message thank you Darrell. Blessings to you and Gracie.

  4. Sometimes the “Be still” only requires a short break, turning aside from the hectic pace and finding refreshment, peace, and enabling to continue in His strength. It is truly amazing what a difference a short time ‘alone’ with Him makes.

Then there are times when a deeper rest is needed and we need to (sometimes compelled to) draw aside and spend much time in His presence, being refreshed and reenergised.

We serve an incredibly amazing God who knows us perfectly, knows EXACTLY what we need, and because He desires the very, very best for us, will order our steps in His way.
