Psalm 23:1-2 The Lord is My Shepherd – Inspirational Bible Verses

salm 23 1 Lord my ShepherdThe LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want . . .

Christ was appointed to be our Shepherd by God the Father, and by His saving grace He was submissive to the cross. Our Lord Jesus Christ is omniscient, and as God He knows all his sheep and their infirmities, their needs, and their weaknesses. When we are lost, He knows where to find us.  When we are in need, He knows what to supply, when we are hungry, He knows what to feed us. His love for us is pure, and as God, He is omnipotent and has all power in heaven and in earth. He saves us from all harm; He protects us from all evil, He defends us and rescues us. He is our all in all, all knowledge and wisdom is His. He will guide us and direct us for His name’s sake. He is the Great Shepherd, the Chief Shepherd, and the Good Shepherd—and we, the sheep of His pasture.

He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside still waters . . .

Here to me “green pastures” symbolizes the Covenant of Grace born at Calvary. In Christ, we are recipients of all the blessings and promises of that Grace. In these green pastures we may feed on the goodness of God—in the fullness of Christ. It is in Christ that our grace is received. We are the sheep in His pasture. Here God invites us to “lie down”, make ourselves comfortable, kick back, and relax. This is God demonstrating to us the safety and fullness we have wrapped in His Grace. In Christ we are fed in these pastures, satisfied in the Spirit, and replenished in our souls as we lie down covered by His Grace as we feed on His goodness.

Here “still waters” symbolizes the eternal, everlasting love of God which flows from His throne like a river. In these streams, the hearts of his people are made joyous and glad. These waters flow from His holy sanctuary by His Spirit, they rise to our ankles, knees, hips and chest and cover our heads with His glory. These waters are a holy river to immerse ourselves in. It is the pure river, the water of life, to which Christ leads us and invites us to drink freely and have our fill. Christ invites us to partake of this water in John 4—“But whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

  2. I am so glad that I have a Sheperd that takes care of me. For I can not do it on my own. My Lord is one of a kind. He can not be replace for He came from our home in Heaven to be Our Sheperd. No one will ever take the place of my loving Jesus in my heart for HE IS MY SHEPERD I SHALL NOT WANT!!!

  3. I like reminding myself He is my Good Shepherd. Thanks.

  4. Thank you Darrell, a very encouraging and uplifting message and yes indeed Jesus is our Shepherd and our wonderful Loving Lord and Saviour, our best Friend and our only Teacher. As God’s redeemed Children our souls are protected, we will not perish, which means to be eternally separated from God, He is patient not wanting this for anyone but He knows who are His and blesses us greatly and as you shared we will have His Peace in all situations, not meaning we will always be Happy Clappy but we will have His deep inner Joy and assurence of God’s Love.

Psalm 97:9-11 For thou, Lord, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods. Ye that Love the Lord, hate evil: He preserveth the souls of His Saints; He delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Psalm 107: 8 – 9 Oh that men would praise the Lord for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness

Jesus told us in these end times Christians will be imprisoned and some Martyred before the first Sickel or Rapture as we call it today and for many it will be for not worshiping the Beast, in the early Church they were killed for sharing the Gospel and this is happening today too in some parts of the world. Jesus warned also that when we stand up for Him we will be ignored, hated and persecuted even by some of our own family and that Satan will put us to the test but God will keep us strong till the end, we will be cleansed of all unrighteousness and conformed into the image of Jesus and as He is so are we in the World, we will walk without sin and be a Holy Nation… How good is that!

1 John 4:17-19 Herein is our Love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in Love; but perfect Love casteth out fear, because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in Love. We Love Him, because He first Loved us.

2Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in Peace; and the God of Love and Peace shall be with you.

Christian Love from us both – Anne

  5. i shall not want, what a privilege! Blessings to you and yours!

  6. I like this, especially how you compared the still waters to the love of Christ. “These waters flow from His holy sanctuary by His Spirit, they rise to our ankles, knees, hips and chest and cover our heads with His glory.” Reminds me of how with Baptism we are submerged with Him, in that love!

  7. Darrell, we are privileged to be the sheep of His pasture. How often we forget that He is our Shepherd and leader. We run away from Him, in an attempt to explore on our own, into territory He has warned we should not go, much to our grief.  This reminder would be good for ChristianBlessings readers and I shall post this blog there on 12 April, 2013 with your concurrence. Thank you. Evelyn

  8. Thank-you Darrell for Psalm23. I had found a NKJV with a picture of sheep in a green pasture in the first page but I had too many memories of that difficult time(I was read it at that time). The LORD wanted me to have a different one, KJV this time, with the the whole 23rd Psalms in the first page inside cover. I replaced the NKJV with the KJV, I feel so much better and thank-you for your words of 23rd Psalms. GOD bless in Jesus’ Name.
