God – Search Me and Know Me -Body, Soul and Spirit – Psalm 139

psalm 139 Search me GodOf all the Psalms the 139th is my 2nd favorite. Wherever we are, we are under the eyes and hands of God. God knows all things, as He is omniscient. He everywhere, as He is omnipresent. These truths are laid out by David in this Psalm. I have written my personal version of it. I pray it is a blessing to you.

Every thought I have Lord, You know it. You have perfect knowledge of me. From the most obvious, to the darkest secrets – You know them all.  My life is an open book before You. Even from Heaven, You know even my most intimate thoughts. There is nothing that I can hide from you.

You know when I walk out the door and when I get back home; You are with me every step of the way. You know everything I’m going to say before the first word leaves my lips; Your Spirit helps me choose my words wisely.

I turn and look behind me, and You’re there; if I look ahead of me, You’re there too. I feel Your comforting presence coming and going. Your Spirit helps guide my each and every step. The wonder of Your grace consumes me, I am engulfed by Your love – I can’t take it all in.

Everywhere I go Your Spirit is with me.   If I go up to the heavens, You are there; if I go to the center of the earth, You are there.  If I rise on the wings of the light of the day and land on foreign soil across the world, You are already there waiting to guide me, and hold me fast.

Even in the darkest of nights, Your light shines about me. Night and day, darkness and light, they’re all the same to You.

You created my innermost being; Your hands formed me in my mother’s womb.  Your love takes my breath away and I praise you because I  am fearfully and wonderfully made; I worship You, adore You, and thank You for creating me in Your image.

You know me inside and out, from the hairs on my head to every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit. You sculpted me from nothing into something. Like an open book, You watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before You. You were there when I shed my first tear, and You will be there as I breathe my last breath. You knew the course of my life before I’d even lived one day.

Your thoughts are wonderful and beautiful my God, engulfing my soul. The depth of your thoughts I’ll never comprehend. I couldn’t even begin to count them any more than I could count the sands of the sea. I find myself lost and found at the same time in Your presence. Let me rise in the morning and be with You always.

Search me, God, and know me; cross-examine my mind, analyze my heart, and investigate my thoughts to see if there is anything offensive to You in me, so that I may humble myself before You, be immersed in Your grace and be with You for eternity when my days are done.

That’s an interesting point which made me think over the Psalms and wonder which would be my favorite or second one. Still thinking on it. Thanks.

  4. Wonderful!! Thank you for these wonderful words. I Thank God for breathing His breath into me. Waking me up this morning and the Blood of Jesus running through my veins. He have given me life in Him. He knows me and I WANT to know Him even better that I do. Thank You Father for making me in the image of Your Son and my Brother. Thank You for where I go You will be with me also to earth and to eternity!!!!

  5. Hey Darrell, It sounds great! This is indeed my favorite Psalms. My very first ever sermons came from this psalm. Every time I visit something new pops out. It certainly has today! Lord be with you man of God.

  8. Thank you, Darrell, for sharing this beautiful psalm, and I love your illustrated verses, too! Could you post a whole bunch more?! I have just posted a picture of an acrylic painting, JESUS- The Light of the World, Emily’s Painting (my grand daughter) http://heulu.wordpress.com

    • I love your granddaughters painting at http://heulu.wordpress.com/. Jesus is indeed my lighthouse \o/, what a beautiful picture. I follow your posts regularly and thank God for you. Blessings in Christ- Darrell

      • I thank God for you, also, and for our kindred spirit. How wonderful it is to fellowship around the goodness of God. I had no idea that Emily’s lighthouse would become the theme of a new post. I was so blessed that the Lord put it all together and to my surprise I found the song about The Lighthouse and even remembered hearing it before! \o/, now and forever! Blessings to you, Darrell!

David, a man after God’s heart, wrote this beautiful Psalm 139. May you be blessed by this post!

  10. Beautiful – written simply and very appropriate. Praise God He sees and is interested in  us through life from our beginning to end. Thank you Darrell for sharing this important reality that our God is a living, personal God, not a god which is a graven image sitting on a shelf, which is deaf and dumb and blind and cannot respond. I shall share this blessing with readers of ChristianBlessings on 26 April, 2013.   Blessings Evelyn

  15. What a beautiful retelling of my favourite Psalm (well it is a tie between this and Ps 91). As I am feeling compelled to blog more and to take it more seriously, it is an inspiration to see that you have day-to-day touched the hearts of so many. I look forward to browsing through your posts and following what will come.
    Bless you lots,
    Easter Ellen

    • Thank you Ellen- I read Today I Celebrate the Gift of Words at http://easterellen.com/2013/04/14/today-i-celebrate-the-gift-of-words/. Like you, when I started 3 years ago, I didn’t know what a blog was. I was blessed by what you shared and see Jesus in everything you write. Be encouraged and let His blood be the ink of the stories you share- In Christ Darrell

      • Wow. Thank you so very much for your encouragement. Like I said, I have felt compelled to write, and have to keep it under the Lord’s umbrella as in the past, if I slip into depression, the words cmd from a numb or very dark place. But now I love this inspiration, my faith is strong, (thank you Lord) and I am completely inspired to just share His love through my story, my poetry and being here. Again.. thank you and may God continue to bless you in your work for Him.

      • Many an anointed word comes from deep dark places, so that they might show the light to those that find themselves there too 🙂 Blessings to You – Darrell

      • Thanks Darrell. I am writing about it now as today’s daily prompt. It is long and there is much to say so I am breaking it into parts. God did amazing things for me in that dark place and I cannot wait to share them.. but that will be in tomorrow’s excerpt. Thanks again for the encouragement,
        Easter
