God Tells Us Who We Are- Powerful Bible Verses to Encourage and Conquer

We are a child of God . . . Romans 8:16 tells us that God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who He is, and we know who we are. He is our Father and we are His children. We have been saved, and had nothing to do with it. Ephesians 2:7-8 tells us that saving us was all His idea, and all His work. All we do is trust him enough to let Him do it. It was His gift from start to finish! We didn’t play the major role. If we did, we’d probably go around bragging that we’d done the whole thing! No, we didn’t save ourselves. God does all the saving.

We are freed from oppression . . . Psalms 107:2 says, Oh, thank God—He’s so good! His love never runs out.   All of you set free by God, tell the world!  Tell how He freed you from oppression. So are you feeling oppressed, you don’t have to be, you have been set free by God.

We are heirs to all creation . . . That’s right, we are God’s heir. We own the stars, and the planets – the whole universe is our as a result of being adopted by God. Romans 8: 16-17 tells us the Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

We are  always protected by God . . . He tells us in Isaiah 46:4,  I’ve been carrying you on my back from the day you were born, and I’ll keep on carrying you when you’re old. I’ll be there, bearing you when you’re old and gray. I’ve done it and will keep on doing it, carrying you on my back, saving you. Praise to my Lord, from the cradle to the grave, He has got us covered.

We are a warrior and over-comer . . . Revelation 12:11 tells us that Satan will be defeated by you and I through the blood of the Lamb and the bold word of our witness. That is something to rejoice about. \o/

We are to be an imitator of God . . . Ephesians 5:1 tells us to watch what God does, and then do the same, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents. Mostly what God does is love us. Keep company with him and learn a life of love. Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Can you love like that, and do what God does?

We are to be a light unto the world . . . Matthew 5:14 tells us that we are here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We need to be public with this, as public as a city on a hill. We are light-bearers; don’t think we can hide God under a bucket – that is not possible. We must let Him shine from the highest hill. We must keep open house, and be generous with our lives. By opening up to others, we will prompt others to open up to God, our generous Father in heaven.

We are to win with God, always, guaranteed . . . This promise is given in Romans 8:37. We are more than conquerors and overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us. With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us, who was raised to life for us, stand by to protect and guide us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture can separate us from His love.

  3. Thank you Darrell, you always get me thinking, we do indeed need to remember just who we are as you shared, perhaps I need to also Post on this Truth too. The Scriptures do confirm, Jesus Loved us enough to die for us even when we were sinners and sin makes Him our enemy and separates us from Him, this is why God asks us to come to heart repentance, it shows we believe in Jesus as our Lord and Saviour and that we are choosing to turn from evil and through the empowering of The Holy Spirit also seeking to do good but not in our flesh which God asks us to put to death ( see below) But God knew we would repent even before we were concieved and chose us to be conformed into the image of Jesus so our past sin is forgiven and we have been set free.

    Colossians 3:4-6 When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.

    I agree with you Darrell we can’t earn our Salvation and we also know that with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit we are Born again of God’s seed and we will show we have it.

    1 John 3: 9 No one who is Born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been Born of God.

    This is why God tells us to reckon ourselves dead to sin Romans 6:11 and aim for perfection but not as the world thinks about perfection but His perfection in Love (see below) and He delights in us when we do because we are no longer in darkness but as you said Darrell, we shine, shine, shine.

    1John 4:16-19 And we have known and believed the Love that God hath to us. God is Love; and he that dwelleth in Love dwelleth in God, and God in him. Herein is our Love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in Love; but perfect Love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in Love. We Love Him, because He first Loved us.

    Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.

    And yes God’s wisdom is the principle thing and we were not born with it so as with His other gifts, we ask for it, Jesus said we don’t have because we don’t ask, how sad that fleshy pride stops so many from asking but they have no hesitation in asking for material worldly things, we are indeed to become like Children.

    Darrell it is True as you shared, when we are Born again we are a Royal Priesthood a Holy Nation, a people belonging to God, Wow His Family, we have been set free … How good is that wonderful Truth.

    John 8:34-36 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

    1 John 2:4-6 He that saith, I know Him, and keepeth not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth His word, in him verily is the Love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in Him. He that saith hebideth in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as He walked.

  14. Those who are NOT blood-bought, adopted chilodren of the living God think we are arrogant and foolish when we tell them of all we are in Christ and all that He has procured for us.

    I must admit it is totally incomprehensible to our minds. The omnipotent, perfect, holy God doing that for ME?!! Incredible! But, praise God for the ABSOLUTE REALITY of the experience we have in Him and the REALITY of these promises as we walk with Him!

    We serve an incredibly amazing God who wants to pour out the abundance of His blessings on us and use us to reach others with His love, mercy and grace. When we receive all He has given, our resident Light will shine forth and draw all men to Himself.
