Christianity in America – I Find it Puzzling . . .

Jesus saves Romans 10 9In this modern world there is a lot of confusion and misinformation that can lead believers and non-believers wondering what to think. In a country where about 78% of adults (247 million) identify themselves as Christians, I find it puzzling that . . .

As conflicted and confusion as our society is, “Christians” are also widely divided by factions and beliefs.

These are only a few, as there are a reported 41,000 different Christian Denominations around the world, with 1500 reported in the US alone. We have the liberty to worship Christ here in America free of the dangers that many in the world face. An average of 159,960 Christians around the globe are martyred for their faith in Christ every year.

With legalism, grace by works, and all the other ugly things that rear their head claiming to be the road that leads to salvation, you can rest assured that the grace of God is a free gift offered to each one of us individually and is not attached to any church or denomination. There are many opinions from which to choose from, but I am here to remind you that the only one that counts is God’s. Outside all the rules and guidelines that man would have you follow, God’s plan for you is simple – repent and receive the gift He has given you.
Ephesians 2:8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-

Romans 10:8-10 The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim:  If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

In all of scripture there is no promise that is as powerful as this. There is no other promise that can put wings to flight like this scripture can. This summarizes all that Christ accomplished on the cross, and gives the opportunity to all who are lost to become members in His redemptive sacrifice. Here even the most ill-informed or ignorant, confused and/or bewildered individuals can read and understand God’s simple plan to save all who will believe. Believe on Him; believe what the scriptures say about Him, speak it out loud openly confessing that you believe in your heart of hearts that what the Word says is true, and He becomes your King, your Lord, and your Savior. The Christ of glory comes down into you and writes your name in the Lambs Book of Life. There is nothing in all of creation more powerful and glorious as this. It is as easy as that, and for anyone to tell you anything different; in this humble writer’s opinion, is blasphemy.

  1. Peter who do you say I am? YOU ARE THE MESSIAH! (AMEN!)

  2. Thank you for sharing the salvation found in Christ alone. Great post!

  3. Great post, Darrell.
The definition of “Christian” in the western world is basically meaningless. I volunteer as an “Internet Missionary” with Global Media Outreach and communicate with Christians (via text and email) all over the world. I received two texts from Iran this week. To those living in oppressive nations like Iran, the word Christian has a very definite definition – to the followers of Christ and to the religious authorities. Their email and cell phone communications are monitored and we’re not allowed to write anything about religion in the subject line because it might be a red flag.
When persecution increases in the West, the word Christian will become defined.

    • I couldn’t agree more brother, many times we complain about persecution when we have no idea what it really is. There may come a day we will all have to stand to be accounted for. thanks for stopping by and sharing blessings in Christ Darrell

    • Is that not the truth, It concerns me that many believe they will not have to face real persecution. So much I could say here but I know it is an older article. Just last week a really close family member who is part of a denomination, said to me if I did not join a denomination (well she called being part of the New Testament Church but it was in reference to joining the denomination my family has always been in) I would just be a guest at the wedding. It truly hit my chest like a ton of brick when she said that but I believe the breastplate of righteousness sprung up and stopped it from going into my heart, I really felt it stop the words. Amazing. Anyway so much truth in the above statement and the article.

  4. Wow, I could not agree more! The “Good News” is so simple, yet it is presented in such a confusing way sometimes and scares people off. It did me for a while. So thankful for people like you who share the real Gospel truth! Great message Darrell!

  5. Romans 10:8-10 The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart, that is, the message concerning faith that we proclaim: If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is so wonderful God’s Word says it like it is.
One day soon all that man proposes, God will dispose. In that day we shall crown Him Lord of lords and King of kings. Praise the Lord.

May I share this blog on Sunday 13 October 2013 with those who need to hear? Thank you and God bless Darrell.

    • Thank You Evelyn for stopping by. I would be honored that you would share my post with others. I’m humbled to be a small part of the ministry that Christian Blessings has to many. Blessings in the name of the Lord Darrell

  6. You know, this country (meaning the US) is not a theocracy, which means that the laws of this country should not be based on any one religion (or holy book) in particular. So why, then, do you seem to want to turn this country into a Christian theocracy? Why do you want to take the Freedom of Religion (and the Freedom From Religion) away from people and force them to abide by the laws of the Bible?

    • Thank you for sharing Hannah, these views are taken from a moral standpoint. As a society much of what we do has gone astray because we can’t seem to tell right from wrong. All theology aside, doesn’t take a genius to see what is morally and ethically the right thing to do. Thanks for your comments, in Christ… Darrell

      • How come some extremely intelligent people (including plenty of MENSA members) are liberals, then, if “it doesn’t take a genius to see what is morally and ethically the right thing to do”? Insulting people just because they don’t have the same opinions and views as you do isn’t at all mature, you know, nor does it make me want to take you seriously. So why not actually take others’ views and opinions into consideration, then?

      • I’m no respecter of persons , no matter their pedigree. If a person’s opinion however conficts with what I believe morally and ethically, then as for me and my house I will give it no consideration. When it comes to my own life, I must do that which I deem to be honorable in my thoughts, opinions and actions, first to God, then my family and lastly my fellow man. Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion, much appreciated 🙂

      • So Darrell, you just blindly believe that you’re right and others are wrong, even though you can’t prove that? Can you honestly not see how foolish that is?

And why do you think that others can’t have anything of value to say if their morals don’t match up completely to yours? That makes zero sense at all, and it really makes it seem as though you don’t want to listen to what others have to say, which is quite intolerant of you. And why should I have to take your intolerance seriously at all?

And why not respect everyone? After all, it’s not like respect is in short supply. You have an infinite amount of respect, so why not use it? And what reason is there to not respect actual geniuses simply because their morals don’t match up completely to yours? Do you really think that intelligence doesn’t matter at all?

  7. Amen–simple and true! How did we get that confused in the first place? God Bless!

  8. I find it puzzling that Hannah does not know that America IS a Christian country. America was founded on Christian believes. But now Americans are told that their great country is not a Christian country anymore??! @ Hannah, if you find you cannot take Darrell serious, why read his blog at all. Just saying.
Darrell I love the verse ‘The Word is near you, in your heart and in your mouth.’ Thank you again for a heart warming message. Blessings to you and Gracie.

    • Thank You Belinda, as always I appreciate you being a part, your comments always bless me in Christ Darrell

    • What Christian beliefs do you think this country was founded on, specifically? Also, you do realize that the large majority of the Founding Fathers were Deists, don’t you? Heck, Thomas Jefferson hated the Bible so much that he refused to read any version of it other than the one he created himself (which he called “the Jefferson Bible”). Seriously, do some research on this issue, instead of believing everything the right-wing pundits (and/or your pastor) tell you to believe.

In fact, here are some articles for you to read:

      • From the Word of God we are not surprised by the reactions to the Word and love of God.
        Matthew 7:13-14 (NIV)
        The Narrow and Wide Gates

13 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

Those who follow the narrow road have found life which others are still seeking for and cannot find except in Jesus Christ.

      • What does that have to do with anything I said? Also, is there a reason why you ignored all of the questions I asked you?

      • The most important question with eternal impact which everybody (including you) has to answer is “What will you do with Jesus?”
A million and one other questions including yours pale in comparison in eternal impact. So we must move on as time is limited. Keep searching for your answers you will not find them apart from Jesus Christ. I pray you will find Jesus as your personal Savior. Bye.

  9. add me as a believer

  10. Darrell, I enjoyed this post but not only that, your response to comments. Kudos to you and thank you for your obedience, it is a blessing to many!

  11. Anyone can call himself a Christian
Jesus said the way is narrow
in the last days we read of what was to come should we be surprised it came to pass ???
No but what ought to be our response
    simply preach the word
do the work of an evangelist
    souls still need saving
and many can sit in a church and not ever hear a clear gospel message
I always considered myself a Christian
till I heard the clear Gospel of Jesus Christ
    What can we do
    but obey scripture
and do the work of the evangelist
    even among professing Christians
    Preach the word
    regardless of the response

  12. Jesus is the answer for the world today, above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the Way.
Jesus is the answer for the world today, above Him there’s no other, Jesus is the Way.
Song by Al Denson. And it is my anthem. John 14:6 clearly states: Jesus told them: “I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life, no one comes to the Father, except through me.” Jesus said it, I believe it. Thank you Darrell. May the LORD continue to speak through you. 🙂

  13. You have put into words what I have been feeling for a long time. Not just for the situation in the US but in many Christian countries in the world.

Romans 10:8-10, as you have quoted, together with John 17:3 “And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth.” basically puts the matter to rest concerning salvation.

And yet you have the Pope making claims like this

It really pains me to see how we have compromised our beliefs and God’s truth.

God bless you for speaking up

  14. Darrell I appreciate your stand against what some call their rights, Abortion takes away the rights of a child who God’s sees as they are conceived and knows even before they are, it’s murder. Children not given the right foundation but a false worldly focus to believe in, hurt God, others and themselves.

Homosexuality takes away the completeness of God’s creation which He said was very good, with them adding to it in an unnatural way, we see the harm it does. Not including those who have died already, there are over 30 Millon people including Children and heterosexual woman, who right now are dieing of Aids and Aids related conditions. The latest research which confirms ( Romans1:27 ) and other Scriptures, shows it is not a virus but a bacteria that comes from their unnatural sex act which attacks the immune system, is it their right to kill others.

Then we have division in those who claim to believe in our God of Unity but who propagate their own agenda, some even claiming God does evil to bring good out of it, the Bible tells us this is slander, so easy to blame Him for what they reap from the wrong they do, or what Satan does to mankind, or because we live in a fallen world with people who wontedly magnify their flesh, even those calling themselves Christians.

I have read on some blogs and they are popular, that claim God molds and shapes us by afflicting us and causing us to suffer ( see below) if you don’t agree with their mixed up theology, then your divisive and in error or worse, a tool of Satan, all of which they whisper to those who will listen, even though Scripture confirms what has been shared but what they share is read out of context or read without real understanding, how do we know, because it contradicts other Scripture.

Lamentations 3: 33 For God doth not afflict willingly nor grieve the children of men.

Isaiah 61 8a “For I, the Lord, Love justice; I hate robbery and wrongdoing.

    1 Corinthians 13: 6 ( Love ) Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the Truth;

Isaiah 5:20-21 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

I was told by one Church that my 7 babies who died were all in Hell because I was not a Christian when they were conceived, all this teaching is against Scripture and makes our God out to be heartless and evil. Darrell would you send my babies to suffer eternally because of my sin…No! and your not even God who is complete Love in all it’s fullness.

What their teaching does show is they do not know our God of Love, 1Corinthians2:9-16 thank you Darrell for sharing many times He is Love. If we don’t know God and His goodness then we won’t Trust Him in our heart and it is our heart that bears witness to our Salvation, yes we can say we believe in Jesus, Satan knows He is a reality too but our words and actions will show if we really do.

Do we hate all of these people, no we Love even our enemies but we hate the evil they say and do and we pray they will come to their senses .

Christian Love from us both – Anne

  15. Very well explained. If we all would be taught the Word and then study things for ourselves, many of these differences would disappear. It is only because we do not use the Bible as the basis of truth that we find ourselves accepting such error filled teaching. May the Lord bless you as you continue to minister for Him.

  16. Amen, Darrell. I was raised Catholic & was witnessed to by Baptists & Charismatics. But when I met the Lord I was by myself on a university campus, not in a church. That doesn’t make me better or worse than anyone else but it just underscores what you said: salvation is a free gift, & no denomination has cornered the market. For me, those various stripes of the church all played their part in planting & watering the gospel seed. But in the end, God made it grow. God bless!

  17. Darrell,
We would like to get permission to quote, give credit and or paraphrase something from your website. How can we go about that???
