Matthew 17:20 Jesus replied, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Our Lord Jesus takes this occasion in the Word to show us the power of faith. He clearly shows us here that if we have faith as a grain of a mustard-seed, He can do wonders in our lives. The Lord is saying to us – If you have an active faith, not a dead faith, not a flat faith or a dull faith, you will not be overwhelmed by the obstacles that confront you in life. Faith is required, and this is revelation given to us by Christ to work miracles in His name for His glory. We need to realize that we can accomplish nothing by ourselves by our own abilities and of our own strength. When we distrust the power derived from Him and granted by faith in Him, it is an affront to grace and all that He accomplished on Calvary.
By grasping the truth in Matthew 17:20 and believing upon His word and relying upon the power in Christ by faith committed to us, we shall say to the mountains in our lives, MOVE, and they will move. This is a powerful expression that says it all, “Nothing shall be impossible to you”. True active faith can move mountains, by the virtue of a divine power engaged by a divine promise in which faith rests upon.
Faith in God turns ordinary people in into powerful believers equipped for extraordinary purposes. The atmosphere of a faith filled life brims with hope and a future of certainty. Faith is our life line that allows us to hold on to God when we are sinking and allows God to pull us forward to a future filled with hope.
God’s word tell us, without faith it is impossible to please God. If in all my praying and seeking, I do so from my own convictions and not by His Spirit, my faith is in my own foolishness, therefore, according to Scripture displeasing to God. In conviction, if I pray because heart is broken by carnal or fleshy needs or means and I trust in that, I need to be broken over again by His Spirit. If we rely on our own experience to be our reasons for having faith in Christ, it is a false reason, and we are really relying upon our own experience and not upon Christ: If we rely upon our own feelings, and not on Christ, our faith shall have no merit. Do not trust in yourself or your own experience, but in the reality of the cross and in the power of His grace.
Sometimes the more spiritual we think we are, the more un-spiritual we actually are; and the more repentant we think we are, the more unrepentant we may actually discover ourselves to be. Jesus wants nothing special of you, nothing whatsoever, nothing you can do in yourself, and nothing you can just feel. With His blood atonement, He is both the work and feeling. So no matter your situation; if you marriage is in shambles, if you are you are out of a job, or your children are hungry, or lost; no matter the situation – Put your faith in Christ. If you are feeling hopeless, even penniless, just as you are, with the feelings of being lost, forsaken, desolate, with no good feelings or hope at all, let go, and let your faith in Christ begin to work for you to your benefit to move the mountains in your life.
Jesus comes to you, and in these words of mercy he says, “Him that comes to me I will in no wise cast out. In His grace, your faith becomes alive. When I turn the knob on my door to the bedroom, I do not wonder if it will open, I know it will, I see it as it is, it has nothing to do with my abilities. All that makes it open is already there. So it is with faith, everything we need is to “open it” is already there, not by looking at what our situation or problem is, but by us being dependent upon Him; having our hope in Him.
By faith we are connecting to God and our power source. By faith the disasters in our life will change. By faith we are saved and given eternal life. By faith all obstacles, pain, sorrow, problems or mountains that are in the way of you living your life to its fullest will be moved and cast into the sea of blood that covers us all. It is that sea of blood named grace in Christ Jesus by which we have our faith.

Well said! Even when we pray in “active faith,” our prayers may not be answered in the way we expect or may seemingly not be answered at all. But “active faith” trusts that God will work all things out according to His will (Romans 8:28), and we can take solace in that truth. Good words, Brother! 🙂

So True Darrell, if we Trust in our own flesh we will fail, we will feel guilt and despair our lives and emotions will not reflect Jesus living in us.
Yes, He was known as a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, why because He knew those who would be lost and He Loved all mankind even those who hated Him but He still hated evil, He did not condone it but told those who sinned to go and sin no more and we too will hate what He hates, we have the same Spirit.
The Scriptures are full of peoples life experiences and we learn from them good and bad, we can learn from our own life experiences too and see God’s hand in them but it is as you said Darrell, not if we put God in a box of our own understanding, some claim today that He no longer works miracles or gives the gifts of The Spirit, why because they don’t recognize them in their own lives or in others, they are still in darkness.
I shared a link with another Blogger about a Church who moved a real Mountain by Faith, not just an emotional or spiritual one, I will leave the link for you below.

Thank you for the powerful word. It definitely adds to the recent revelations God has give me and my wife in this season that we are in.
“True active faith can move mountains, by the virtue of a divine power engaged by a divine promise in which faith rests upon.”
When I read that I had a vision seeing the divine promise as a car, the divine power as the mechanics and full tank of gas, and faith represented by a person. The person getting in the car is like faith resting on the divine promises. There’s no movement without a driver to start the car and drive. The promises remain powerful but idle without faith turning it on for an individual.
God bless and thanks again.

Great article! Have you ever seen an Israeli mustard seed? They’re the size of ground pepper or the dot on this “i”…and are indeed the smallest of seeds. He doesn’t ask much from us, does He? 🙂

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

There can be more or less faith, and stronger or weaker faith, even though there’s no direct way of measuring it. It’s not a constant in people; it’s different with each moment and situation. It can go untested for long periods of time, but life will eventually put it to the test. Faith can be strengthened and it can become weak. Weak faith leads to fear and inaction. You can pray that God will give more faith to you or to someone else.

When we are baptized, we take Christ’s name upon us. As Christians, we seek to follow Him in all aspects of our lives. Jesus was baptized when He was on earth. He has asked us to follow His example and to be baptized ( see 2 Nephi 31:12 ). He has promised that if we follow His example and keep the promises we make when we’re baptized, we will have His Spirit to guide us through this life. Because Heavenly Father is a fair and loving God, everyone will have the opportunity to accept Jesus Christ through baptism, if not in this life then in the next.

and thus saved before they were baptized? Doesn’t Peter in Acts 10:43 make it clear that it was the faith that produced remission of sins, and that water baptism came later as a symbol of their new life in Christ?

Even in his power and sovereignty, God is amazed and pleased by our faith. It is our opportunity to move mountains, tear down strongholds and bring glory to God.
