I have written a modern-day translation of the Proverbs 31 woman. What makes a woman special is her relationship with the Lord. It matters not if the Proverbs 31 woman is a wife or a single mom, a godly woman serves her family because she serves God first. Her strength from God lies in the devotion to her family. She is the epitome of virtue as grace is her foundation and her strength.
It is hard to find the perfect wife
She is worth far more TV, sports or an I-pad.
A husband depends on his wife.
With her by his side, he will never be poor.
She cares for her him all her life.
She never causes him pain and heartache.
Her duties are both inside and outside the home,
She is a wife, mother, and business woman.
She shops for the best bargains even outside her neighborhood,
She delights in saving money for her family.
She wakes up early in the morning,
She makes breakfast for her family and takes care of the pets.
She is sensible with her money, and contributes financially, if needed.
She invests in her family’s future spiritually.
She works very hard to be an example of godliness.
She is strong in character and able to do all that is required of her.
She is industrious, finishing what she starts ensuring
That all the needs of her household are taken care of.
She is kind and giving to those less fortunate than herself,
She reaches out to help those in need.
The seasons may change, but she does not
She always provides for the physical needs of her family.
Her inner strength from God brings her respect,
She trusts in God for her future.
Her words are filled with insight,
Her compassion moves others in kindness.
Her home is where her heart is,
She dutifully cares for it.
Her children voice their appreciation,
Her husband praises her, saying
“There are many good women,
But there is none like you.”
Beauty can fool the eyes,
But a woman who respects the Lord is to be praised.
Her beauty comes from her relationship with God,
The world will see God’s work of grace in her, and she will be honored.

what a great idea! well done – and I was so happy that you added the business woman part – I think that gets missed by many who use this verse to describe a Godly woman.
And real quick like – was wondering how you translated
22b:
she is clothed in fine linen and purple
and
23 a,b
Her husband is respected at the city gate,
where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.
Not to knit pick = because you did such a great translation, but it seems like those two verses are missed. At least to me -;)
22b: this verse with the linen (or silk?) and “purple” – which was not cheap – seem to hint at quality and excellence – not necessarily materialism in how she dresses, but care- because we do live in a social world and well, then it ties into the next verse, about her husband – and the way she carries herself makes her husband “look good” (23 a,b) and his respect in town is enhanced from the prudent and diligent lifestyle she lives out – and I think that is special because in marriage we represent each other and I think this is a great example of how couples can have individual tasks – that still anchor from a unified oneness – and then their individual stuff has a way of leaking into the community and enriching one’s reputation – which then adds more for the glory of God as the couple represents the Lord….
oh and one more tidbit (and sorry, hope this is okay to say) but using the word “perfect” for virtuous missed something…. I am not sure what word I would have used instead, but virtuous suggests more of a moral – upright and wholesome thing –
Virtuous suggests a lady with their “right” priorities down – which to me is living with integrity and just doing what is right – living by virtues….
but the word “perfect” means flawless and without error – and well, nobody ever can live up to that – not even the Proverbs 31 woman could be that. In fact, I bet she and her hubby had to merge and learn the growing lessons that most couples enjoy – because neither one is ever perfect and it is “hard to find the perfect wife” because that does not exist…
Because even after a couple smooths out any beginning stuff – well human mistakes will be always be made and here’s the thing – that is where the virtuous part comes in so critically – – because when you are virtuous – it is a safety net and it involves wholesome living, which has many fruits – including some peace of mind payoffs – for everyone – but especially to the hubby! And so this kind of woman – who is not perfect – but who can be trusted – well a virtuous lady truly is better than gems, rubies and jewels (or bette than stocks, beach houses, and private jets) because the husband’s heart can rest when his wife is doing what she does – because of the morals she aims to operate with.

In vs 22,23 I simply omitted them as I decided to paraphrase the chapter. If I were writing for publication I would have broken every verse down but for my humble blog I decided to post as I did 🙂 That being said, your insight completes what I missed as you are right on target with your comments.
